TAROUBA - Justin Greaves produced the finest spell of his Test career to inspire West Indies to a crucial first-inning lead after Pakistan were bowled out for 282 on the third day of the opening Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Monday. Despite a magnificent century from skipper Shan Masood, Pakistan suffered a dramatic middle-order collapse, surrendering six wickets for just 15 runs to concede a 29-run deficit after West Indies had earlier posted 311.Resuming the day on 199-3, Pakistan looked well placed to secure a healthy lead with overnight batters Masood and Salman Ali Agha extending their fourth-wicket partnership. Masood, unbeaten on 88 overnight, reached his seventh Test century and his first since relinquishing the Pakistan Test captaincy, while Agha provided solid support before the hosts struck back.The breakthrough came when speedster Shamar Joseph produced a superb late-swinging delivery to bowl Agha for a patient 20, ending a valuable 47-run partnership.

What followed was a remarkable collapse orchestrated by Greaves. The medium pacer dismissed the well-set Masood for a superb 109 off 184 deliveries, an innings decorated with 12 boundaries, before triggering panic in Pakistan’s lower order.Greaves removed Aamer Jamal (3), debutant Ali Usman (0) and Mohammad Rizwan (12) in quick succession, reducing Pakistan from a commanding 244-3 to 259-8.

During an extraordinary spell, Greaves claimed four wickets in four overs without conceding a run, completely changing the complexion of the contest.Pakistan’s tail offered little resistance after lunch. Greaves completed his maiden Test five-wicket haul by dismissing Mohammad Abbas without scoring, while veteran pacer Kemar Roach wrapped up the innings by removing Khurram Shahzad, whose fighting 19 delayed the inevitable. Greaves finished with outstanding figures of 5-27 in 11 overs, receiving excellent support from Roach and Shamar Joseph, who claimed two wickets each, while Jayden Seales chipped in with one.Although Masood produced one of his finest Test innings under pressure, Pakistan’s batting collapse overshadowed his effort and handed the initiative to the hosts.

The left-hander reached his seventh Test century and finished as Pakistan’s top scorer with 109 off 184 balls, striking 12 boundaries.
