TRINIDAD - West Indies maintained control on the opening day of the second and final Test against Pakistan de-spite a spirited bowling response from the visitors, reaching 165-4 at tea at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain on Sunday.
Pakistan made early inroads but struggled to contain the hosts’ scoring rate as West Indies batters produced a composed recovery after losing four wickets. Fast bowler Mohammad Ali provided Paki-stan with an early breakthrough by dismissing opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul for 15 during a rain-affected opening session, which was reduced to just 9.5 overs. After the interruption, Brandon King and Kevlon Hodge rebuilt the innings with a confident partner-ship. King scored a brisk 46 off 50 balls, featuring nine boundaries, before becoming the maiden Test wicket for left-arm spinner Ali Usman, who reduced West Indies to 65-2. Off-spinner Sajid Khan added another breakthrough by removing Hodge for 10, giving Pakistan renewed hope.

However, debutant Ubaid Shah and Sajid could not prevent West Indies from regaining momentum. Ubaid claimed his first Test wicket by dismissing Amir Jangoo for 26, while Shai Hope remained com-posed and guided the hosts beyond the 150-run mark. Hope, along with Justin Greaves, continued to frustrate the Pakistani bowlers as West Indies built a strong position heading into the final session.
