DUBAI - India produced a clinical all-round performance to defeat Pakistan by seven wickets in the high-profile Group A clash of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, leaving Pakistan facing a must-win situation against Hong Kong in their final group match.

India’s spin attack proved decisive as Pakistan were bowled out for just 55 in 18.1 overs, their lowest-ever total in women’s T20 internationals. Shree Charani and Prema Rawat claimed three wickets apiece, while Deepti Sharma chipped in with two as India maintained relentless pressure throughout the innings. Pakistan appeared to make a steady start after captain Fatima Sana opted to bat first. Muneeba Ali and Shawaal Zulfiqar added 27 for the opening wicket before Muneeba was dismissed for 13 off 15 balls in the fifth over.

The breakthrough triggered a dramatic collapse. Charani struck twice in quick succession to remove Gull Feroza and Shawaal, who top-scored with 14. Pakistan subsequently lost wickets at regular intervals, with only Tuba Hassan offering brief resistance at the lower end. Rawat and Charani completed their three-wicket hauls, while Deepti removed captain Fatima Sana for a duck. Pakistan lost six wickets for only 12 runs during one devastating phase before being dismissed for 55.

India’s chase was not entirely trouble-free. Fatima Sana gave Pakistan a glimmer of hope by removing Shafali Verma, Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana, reducing India to 29 for three. However, Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma calmly extinguished any hopes of a Pakistan fightback. Kaur remained unbeaten on 18 from 18 balls, including a four and a six, while Deepti contributed an unbeaten 12. The pair added an unbroken 28-run stand as India reached 57 for three in just 8.4 overs, with 68 balls to spare. The victory was India’s third successive win in the tournament and kept them unbeaten at the top of Group A. Pakistan, who had opened their campaign with a 35-run victory over Thailand, remain second with two points. Pakistan will now face Hong Kong on September 7, with a place in the semi-finals still within reach.
